Lets talk about Online Dating…
I am no stranger to Online Dating, in fact, I’d call myself an online dating veteran. From Tinder to PoF, Match to Zoosk, and a very brief stint on uniform dating, I’ve tried a heck of a lot.
I’ve always sat back and waited for the messages to roll in, and I’ve waited, and waited and waited… you get the point.
I’m not engaging in any hot conversations on Tinder.
Nothing’s happening on Happn
And I’m not catching anything on PoF
I decided to see what all the buzz was about on Bumble.
I downloaded the app, synced it with my Facebook, to nab my nicest profile pictures and got to window shopping.
For those of you who don’t know, bumble is an innovative dating app, prompting women to make the first move, and by prompting I mean forcing. If you match with someone (same principle as tinder, you both swipe right) then the woman has 24 hours to message the bloke, before that opportunity is taken away. All matches with no correspondence get deleted after 24 hours. That stops the issue of match hoarding and nudges people to actually connect…. In theory.
So I was tentatively swiping, awaiting my first match. It didn’t take too long, which is a slight ego boost. After about 30 minutes of occasional swiping I’d accumulated 7 matches.
But the ball was in my court. I had to break the ice if I was to stand a chance at sparking up a conversation with any of my matches.
So, for the first time, I stepped out of my comfort zone and sent 7 general hello opening messages. Be kind, I’m very new to this!
2 people wrote me back. The rest have since vanished and been replaced with more matches.
Of the two that replied from the first wave, I’ve sustained a conversation with one of them.
